Service-oriented Architecture

Thaler’s service-oriented architecture

Thaler uses the principles of service-oriented architecture (SOA) – providing a platform of open standards and layer decoupling with reusable services that can be assembled into a variety of business processes. This approach improves IT productivity and adds business value by supporting end-to-end business processes. It also enables the seamless integration of Thaler with partner solutions and homegrown solution landscapes.

Key benefits of SOA:

  • Fast adaption of your IT landscape to changing business needs
  • Reduced time to market for new products and branches
  • Lower total cost of ownership
  • Increased flexibility and extensibility
  • An open technical environment to future-proof your investment

Thaler follows open standards

Thaler’s open standards provide an independent platform you can use with major Unix® -based systems such as SAP® NetWeaver®, JBoss, IBM AIX®, HP-UX®, Sun Solaris® and Linux®, Websphere, and IBM zSeries®. Thaler is also database independent and can be implemented on Oracle® database applications or IBM DB2®.

Using Thaler with SAP NetWeaver

If you deploy the Thaler on SAP NetWeaver platform option, you will benefit from the integrated SAP NetWeaver functionality. You can activate these functions stepwise to control costs while making the transition to SOA. Thaler leverages the following SAP NetWeaver components:

  • SAP NetWeaver Portal provides role-based views across your enterprise.
  • SAP NetWeaver Business Process Management and SAP NetWeaver Business Rules Management help you reduce risks and costs while responding more quickly to changing business needs and ensuring that your processes conform to your business policies.
  • SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment helps you design and implement composite applications.
  • SAP NetWeaver Process Integration helps you connect applications and data sources when integrating business processes.

Inspired by the Banking Industry Architecture Network

Callataÿ & Wouters is founding member of the Banking Industry Architecture Network (BIAN) and leverages the results and work of this community to build its SOA. BIAN -- led by world's top financial institutions, industry software providers and integrators – seeks to establish SOA guidelines banks can use to shorten the time to market for new products, adapt more quickly to changing customer needs, and reduce the costs and time involved in new implementations.

BIAN combines the knowledge and experience of community members to develop banking-specific standards for business services and their building blocks. Callataÿ & Wouters uses the results of this collaboration in developing new products – pursuing innovation that supports industry standards.

The Thaler enterprise architecture

The Thaler enterprise architecture, aligned with the BIAN business reference model, follows a top-down approach in representing business processes supported by Thaler. The model defines objects and roles and relates them to the processes, application services, and parameter-settings that determine workflows and the behavior of application components.

The Thaler enterprise architecture provides a strategic planning tool and blueprint to align the Thaler implementation with your bank’s strategy.

It furthermore helps us communicate a consistent view of Thaler to our technology and business partners, improve the speed and consistency of implementations, reduce risk, and enhance adoption of Thaler standards.
